Course overview
Get ready for the most creative month of your life
In this course, you’ll learn how to use AI to write effective, energetic prose—all in fewer than 30 days.
This is not a course telling you to outsource all your thinking to chatbots. This class will teach you how to do the best writing of your life, and how AI can get you where you want to go, faster.
You’ll learn the key ingredients of great writing: taste, research, revision, and hard work.
At the end of the month, you’ll have the opportunity to share your essay with Every’s audience of 90,000-plus passionate readers.
We are all writers
One great essay can change the world. This is the class to help you make yours.
Whether you're an email warrior, a marketing copy whiz, or a budding blogger, writing can accelerate your goals.
Don’t worry if you don’t know your adverb from your adjective. What matters is a strong desire to make something that’s uniquely yours.
At Every, we’ve been publishing online for years. We’ve also launched multiple software products and hosted several courses—all with a full-time staff of fewer than 10 people.
And not only are we doing all of this with a small staff, we’re turning what we learn into products. We’ve incubated Lex, an AI-powered word processor, and Spiral, a powerful prompt builder that can automate 80 percent of repeat writing, thinking, and creative tasks.
Now we’re combining the best of what we know about both writing and building AI products into one class. How to Write With AI will teach you how the foundations of online writing and new AI tools go hand in hand.
You’ll learn how to use ChatGPT to conduct research and explore ideas. From there you’ll learn how to write with Claude. After you have a draft, you’ll learn how to edit it in Lex. Finally, you’ll learn how to distribute your ideas with Spiral.

Course curriculum
Every Thursday you'll have a 1.5-hour lecture and working session from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. EDT, where you’ll meet with your instructor and other students to talk through new concepts, answer questions, and practice writing prompts.
On each day of the month, you’ll have a short writing exercise. After completing the exercise, we recommend setting aside time and working on the essay you will share with Every’s audience of 90,000-plus readers.
You’ll also have opportunities to interact with other students as well as with an Every-trained editor to get the best feedback on your writing.
The course is structured as follows:
-
We’ll discuss what taste means in writing and how to discover your own taste. You’ll learn how to use ChatGPT to examine and improve your own.
-
We’ll examine how to conduct research that fosters original thought and how to utilize a note-taking system that works for you. You’ll learn how to use Claude to translate rough notes into a picture-perfect outline.
-
We’ll discuss the importance of editing, what makes an essay go viral, and how to write with your own voice. You’lllearn how to use document editors like Lex to edit faster.
-
We’ll explore how to expand a tweet into an essay, and provide an overview of distribution options (and how to get started). You’ll share your essay to Every’s 90,000-plus readers (if you so choose), and learn how to use Spiral to transform your essays into hooks too tempting for readers to resist.
You’ll learn how to:
Develop your writing taste using AI tools
Master research and outline creation
Craft compelling content and edit efficiently
Adapt writing for different formats
Explore distribution and advanced AI writing tech

What tools will we use?
While you’ve almost certainly tried this tool in the past, it has improved significantly over the last six months. There is no better software to have as a thought partner—it’ll easily hold a conversation, dive deep into a topic, and help you better understand your psyche.
Anthropic’s models are incredible at writing. We’ll show how to take rough ideas you generated with ChatGPT and turn those into rough drafts. It can’t write an entire essay, but it’ll take you closer than you think.
Lex is a word processor with AI-powered editing tools that makes it easy to produce consistently great writing. You’ll learn how to use Lex to take those rough drafts produced in Claude and then refine those, over and over again, until every word on the page shines.
Spiral is a prompt builder that automates 80 percent of any repeat writing, thinking, or decision-making task. You’ll learn how to transform your essay into a tweet and LinkedIn post, and get readers interested in your writing.
